fb:comments does not show

Today, I was trying to integrate fb:comments. This ought to be extremely easy (add a Javascript snippet and the fb:comments tag)… however, it did not work. It did include the iframe, but nothing was shown. Problem is, with Facebook XFBML, the reason can be anywhere: wrong app configuration, wrong invocation, deprecated examples, Facebook bugs…

This time, wrong invocation was the cause… I did it like this: <fb:comments xid="contest:252"></fb:comments>, but it should have been <fb:comments xid="contest.252"></fb:comments>. Quite an obvious mistake… though for once, the API documentation was right.

Ah, Facebook. I’ll say a prayer for you every night: “Dear God, please make Google buy Facebook, and develop them a decent API!”. (Or, in this case, anything that looks even remotely like an error handling/reporting.)

(This post is just to inform all the poor fellows struck with the task of developing something for Facebook about one possible source of errors.)
